My Approach to Garden Design
Garden design is an investment that will enhance the value of your property considerably if it is done correctly, as well as giving you and your family hours and hours of pleasure.
Each and every project we undertake is assessed individually and my designs and plans reflect the exact requirement of each client, their children and pets. We then progress to ground clearance, soil preparation and hard landscaping prior to planting. Just as no two clients are the same, no two gardens are the same. I place great emphasis on ground preparation: it is all too easy to make everything look wonderful for five minutes and of course am always mindful of the environment and have a preference for organic principles.
One of my great pleasures is to undertake the design of a garden for professed non-gardeners who ask for a low-maintenance, easy-care garden because they are out at work all day or are of retirement age and don’t want to be slaves to their garden. After a few days watching us work and asking questions they are then to be found on their hands and knees finding space for an unusual hebe bought at an Open Garden Day. That is rewarding! Equally I admit huge pride when one of ‘my’ gardens is open to the public.
I travel all over the country designing and advising, but primarily work in the surrounding counties of Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire - although currently I have a number of projects in London, so nowhere is too far.
